In the late evening on Sunday, October 1, evil incarnate came to Las Vegas, Nevada. Before committing suicide, a madman killed 58 people and wounded over 500 at an open-air concert. It was the lead story on all the networks for over a week. But unlike the mainstream media (MSM), we won’t sink to mentioning his name.

While doctors worked feverishly to treat victims and save lives, almost before the blood had dried on Las Vegas streets, CBS Vice-President and Senior Counsel Hayley Geftman-Gold posted on Facebook, “If they wouldn’t do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing, I’m actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun toters.” Following Geftman-Gold’s comments, the network quickly fired her.

Hillary Clinton tweeted, “Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get… We can and must put politics aside, stand up to the NRA, and work together to try to stop this from happening again.” Hmmm, sounds like the typical anti-gun political talking point to me.

The Sportsmen’s Heritage and Recreational Enhancement (SHARE) Act, which included a provision to remove suppressors from the NFA, was scheduled for a full vote in the House of Representatives the week following the atrocity. Undoubtedly bowing to political pressure, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan pulled the bill off the schedule.

Other “pro-Second Amendment” Republicans, like Sen. John Thune (R-SD), Congressman Mark Meadows (R-NC), and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC), are now wavering on their support for the Constitution. I don’t know about you, but where I’m from, we call them turncoat cowards with no true principles.

Of the 23 firearms found in the murderer’s room, Slide Fire stocks had been affixed to several of them. The Slide Fire replaces the standard stock and allows the firearm to be “bump fired” by using the gun’s recoil to bump against the trigger finger.

Although the hysterical MSM says the device converts a semiautomatic firearm to full-auto, this is not the case. It is not nearly as effective as a true full-auto firearm and, because of the manner in which it operates, i.e., pushing forward on the handguard instead of pulling it back into the shoulder, it is counterintuitive to good shooting techniques.

Some pro-Second Amendment folks are saying the Slide Fire should be banned as a concession to the far left. I respectfully disagree, as once we concede any rights, it’s a slippery slope as to how many we are willing to give away in the name of political correctness.

The loss of life of 58 innocent citizens in Las Vegas should be mourned. Our hearts and prayers are with their families

Parenthetically, as this is written, there have been 487 homicides in Chicago this year—58 in September alone—and the silence from the MSM has been deafening. Where’s the outrage?

FIVE-YARD ROUNDUP: Timed Close-Up Shooting Drill

As I work with different groups of shooters and organizations, I routinely see a significant training gap: solid hits under realistic time pressure at relatively close range. A compelling body of evidence from anecdotal as well as organizational studies shows that the fight is likely to happen with the interested parties separated only by a few steps.
